It’s scary time in the world right now. There’s a lot of uncertainty and many of us are adjusting to a new reality of working from home, good hygiene practices and social distancing.
Amid all this, we feel really proud of our Bangkok Toastmasters Community in particular and global Toastmasters in general.
Now, more than ever, it’s time to stick together and help each other through challenging time. On March 16th, 13 Toastmasters joined force and helped make our last physical meeting a success.
Our Immediate Past President, Matt, in his speaking tips speech encouraged us to use metaphor in our speeches. He used the 3Ms technique: Model (something physical like an elephant), Emotional side and Mnemonic device, or memory device, is any learning technique that aids information retention or retrieval (remembering) in the human memory. Mnemonics make use of elaborative encoding, retrieval cues, and imagery as specific tools to encode any given information in a way that allows for efficient storage and retrieval. Mnemonics aid original information in becoming associated with something more accessible or meaningful—which, in turn, provides better retention of the information.
The Speaking Tips session was followed by the prepared speeches, with 4 speakers:
Lek delivered his Level 1 Project 3, entitled “Job interview tips”
Aim delivered her Level 1 Project 2a, entitled “A stranger’s smile”
Nuchanath delivered her Level 3 Project 2, entitled “Sandperper Paper”
Liew, led the Table Topics session, and concluded by General Evaluator report, delivered by Matt
